Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper have agreed to resume negotiations on establishing a free trade area between the two countries, the Ukrainian leader's press service reported.

Speaking at his meeting with Poroshenko, Harper said that Ukraine would not find a better friend than Canada.

Canada’s Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Edward Fast, for his part, said that the five rounds of such talks that had already been held between his country and Ukraine would help form a major part of the future agreement.

The most attractive sectors for bilateral cooperation are agriculture, agricultural engineering, energy, and technologies, the press service reported.

According to the report, a number of Canadian officials said they support the actions of the Ukrainian authorities in combating corruption and hope for the improvement of the investment climate in Ukraine in future.
