You're reading: Ukraine and Eurojust initial agreement on cooperation

The Justice Ministry of Ukraine and Eurojust (the European Union's Judicial Cooperation Unit) have initialed a draft agreement on cooperation, the ministry's press service has said.

Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych said that the agreement was initialed in the Hague (the Netherlands) on December 8 following the talks, during which the parties had finally agreed the draft agreement. The Ukrainian mission headed by the Government Commissioner for the European Court of Human Rights Valeria Lutkovska visited the Hague with the purpose.

The minister also stressed that after the agreement is ratified, a legal basis will be created so that our country could use the opportunities of Eurojust for rapid exchange of information, coordination in combating cross border crimes, facilitating evidence gathering.

According to Lavrynovych, such cooperation will raise to a new level of effectiveness the activities of the competent authorities of Ukraine and the European Union in investigation and prosecution of serious transnational crimes.
