You're reading: Ukraine confirms crossing of Russian border by group of Ukrainian troops

The headquarters of the military operation have confirmed the reports stating that the personnel of the 72nd separate motorized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces have crossed the Russian border in the Rostov region.

“After an attack, which lasted for almost four hours, a decision was
made to divide the brigade. One unit [of troops] broke through and the
other covered their fellow servicemen until they ran out of munitions.
When they ran out of munitions, the remainders of the damaged equipment,
which remained in the battlefield, were blown up and the remaining
troops of the 72nd brigade went to the Russian checkpoint,” Oleksiy
Dmytrashkivsky, press officer for the military operation, said on
112.Ukraine television.

At the same time, Dmytrashkivsky did not give the exact number of the
troops who have entered the territory of Russia and did not say if any
of them were wounded.

Vasily Malayev, a representative of the Russian Federal Security
Service Department for the Rostov region, earlier told Interfax that
over 400 Ukrainian troops had asked Russian border guards to open a
humanitarian corridor through Russia.
