You're reading: Ukraine exchanges counter-crime info with CIS countries

Astana - Ukraine continues to honor its obligations as part of an agreement that allows CIS member countries to share information on measures to combat crime, the director of the Russian Interior Ministry's Main Information Analysis Center, Pavel Vazhev, has said.

“Our [interstate] database is receiving information from different
sources, including the Ukrainian side. Ukraine is a member of our
organization and continues to demonstrate its comprehensive commitment
to all agreements,” Vazhev told reporters on the sidelines a meeting of
press officers from CIS law enforcement agencies in Astana, Kazakhstan,
on Thursday, July 24.

Kyiv has also been forwarding its inquiry messages to the CIS interstate database, he said.

However, Ukraine has decided not to send its delegation to the meeting in Astana.

The prime ministers of CIS member countries signed an agreement to
exchange information on counter-crime measures in Astana on May 2009.

The document allows the CIS services in charge of these issues to
share advisory and crime-related information stored in their databases
following each other’s requests and to exchange research and development
and analytical reports, as well as regulatory acts related to
counter-crime measures free of charge.

All related information will be accumulated at the Interstate
Information Bank, which is hosted by the Russian Interior Ministry. The
signatories to the agreement will be required to provide this bank with
new information that can be used by CIS agencies in charge of fighting
crime.
