You're reading: Ukraine for month extends emergency measures on electricity market

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on Oct. 9 published cabinet resolution No. 915 of Oct. 1, 2014 on the introduction of emergency measures on the electricity market for the period of one month.

According to the document, the resolution takes effect from the day followed the day when it was published.

The measures are the same first introduced by cabinet resolution No. 764 of Aug. 13, 2014.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers by decree No. 372 on Aug. 13, 2014 approved the procedure of taking temporary emergency measures to overcome the effects of the prolonged disruption of the normal work of the electricity market and by order No. 764-r dated Aug. 13, 2014 approved the need for such measures. At the same time, the two documents were posted on the government’s portal on Aug. 24.

The need for taking such measures appeared due to the fighting in Donbas, which entailed a decline in coal production and its transportation to power plants, which are the major consumers of coal products.
