Ukraine and Georgia expect from the Riga summit of the Eastern Partnership scheduled for May 21-22 a positive signal regarding the introduction of the visa-free regime with the European Union.

This is stated in a joint declaration of the committees on foreign affairs and European integration of the parliaments of Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine, which was adopted at the trilateral inter-parliamentary conference in Tbilisi and sent to the leadership of the European Parliament and the national parliaments of the EU countries, according to the official website of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc.

On behalf of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the declaration was signed by chair of the Committee for European Integration Iryna Heraschenko of the Poroshenko Bloc, and first deputy chairman of the Committee for Foreign Affairs Ivanna Klimpush-Tsintsadze.

Kyiv hopes that the Riga summit will be an important milestone in the relationship between the Eastern Partnership countries and the EU and Ukraine and Georgia will receive positive, clear and unambiguous signals about the membership prospects and the introduction of a visa-free regime, Heraschenko said.

According to her, lack of response to these questions “will be good news for Moscow.” She stressed that the Ukrainian government was doing everything necessary to meet the technical prerequisites for the introduction of a visa-free regime in the context of the implementation of the second phase of the action plan on visa liberalization.
