You're reading: SBU says Russia trains mercenaries to go to Ukraine

Ukraine's Security Service (SBU) claimed on June 29 that there exists evidence that there are centers in Russia for "recruiting mercenaries to destabilize the situation and support terrorists in Ukraine."

“Information has also been obtained on the existence in Taganrog, the city of Shakhty in Rostov region, the village of Molkino in Krasnodar territory, and in Moscow region of centers for training saboteur groups for terrorist acts, subversion and armed attacks on Ukrainian military personnel and civilians,” the SBU said in a statement, citing its deputy head Viktor Yahun.

“It is a documented fact that it is from there that evildoers come to Ukraine,” it said.

“Use is made of social networks, where contact information is posted,” the SBU said. “The recruitment of so-called volunteers mainly has a financial basis under it.”

“The Ukrainian state demands that the Russian side immediately end its support for the terrorists, close the recruitment centers and mercenary training camps, stop recruiting citizens of Ukraine, and withdraw reconnaissance and sabotage groups sent to Ukraine earlier,” Yahun said.
