The eastern Ukrainian militias have released 1,800 Ukrainian troops whom they took prisoner, the Ukrainian president's commissioner for the settlement of the conflict in eastern Ukraine said on Friday, Nov. 28.

The released captives included 1,043 who partially owed their release to efforts by the Ukrainian Security Service’s Support Center for Hostage Release, Iryna Heraschenko told a briefing in Kyiv.

She also said the Security Service call center had received 2,800 reports about 2,300 people having gone missing.

Earlier, National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andriy Lysenko had said the militants still held more than 700 Ukrainians prisoner.
