The Ukrainian military said the situation along the frontline in eastern Ukraine "remained unquiet" on May 21.

“Criminals used 82-millimeter mortars, automatic grenade launchers and small arms in attacking Zolote in the Luhansk sector. Sanzharivka was also pounded by automatic grenade launchers while Bohuslavske was under assault rifle and machinegun fire,” the press center for the government military operation in eastern Ukraine said on Facebook.

Shyrokyne near Mariupol was under fire “all day long,” the press center said. It said it was reporting information obtained before 6 p.m.

In Donetsk region, 122-millimeter artillery and 120-millimiter mortars attacked Opytne, Pervomaiske and Pivnichne. Moreover, a tank fired on Opytne and Maryinka, and Pisky was attacked with small arms, the center said.

In Tonenke, militants fired on a church during an Ascension service but blamed the alleged attack on Ukrainian forces, it said.

The center also said militants’ drones had been detected in the air in the “Vodiane-Mariupol, Sukha Balka-Novhorodske-Horlivka and Lebedynske-Shyrokyne sectors.”
