You're reading: Ukraine minister accused of using stolen Mercedes

The Justice Ministry says it is investigating claims by a pro-government lawmaker that the country's justice minister is using a Mercedes that was stolen in Germany and smuggled into Ukraine.

Lawmaker Valery Konovalyuk alleges that Justice Minister Oleksandr Lavrynovych is being chauffeured in a car confiscated by the state through a court order.

Konovalyuk claims that Lavrynovych liked the car, which is still listed as stolen by Interpol, and had it appropriated by the Justice Ministry.

A Justice Ministry spokeswoman said Monday it was looking into those claims.

The Ukrainian office of the Interpol declined immediate comment.

The Kommersant daily claimed that Konovalyuk and Lavrynovych have feuded in the past.
