Ukraine must meet the conditions of the Treaty on European Union - Maastricht Treaty and Copenhagen Agreement to join the European Union (EU), Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said at a meeting with the school self-government leaders on the International Day for Protection of Children on June 1.

The press service of the head of state reported that this concern the level of education, industry, GDP, democracy, freedom, combat against corruption and independence of judicial power.

“I, political forces will have to conduct many reforms with your help. I count on you,” the president said.

Poroshenko called on students to jointly make efforts and work on providing of an opportunity for Ukraine to join the EU. He said that Ukrainian showed their clear desire to integrate into the EU and changed the attitude of Europeans to the prospect of Ukraine’s membership.

The president positively assessed the initiatives of creating school ‘parliaments’ and ‘cabinets of ministers.’

“This is a good way to prepare for adulthood and take this as conscious and responsible choice,” the head of state said.
