You're reading: Ukraine not extraditing Yarosh to Russia

The Ukrainian authorities do not intend to extradite to Russia Right Sector leader Dmytro Yarosh, against whom criminal cases are opened in Russia and whom Interpol has placed on the wanted list, the Ukrainian interior minister's advisor Anton Heraschenko said.

“It is unknown where Yarosh is now. Ukraine does not extradite its citizens to other countries, not to mention Russia, which does not extradite Ukrainian citizens to us,” Heraschenko posted on Facebook on Friday evening.

Thus, “Dmytro Yarosh has nothing to fear in Ukraine namely on this regard,” he said.

Interpol has declared Yarosh wanted upon the request of the Russian judicial authorities. The Interpol Web site’s “wanted persons” section says that Yarosh is wanted by Russia’s judicial authorities “for prosecution/to serve a sentence” on charges of “public incitement to terrorist activities involving the use of mass media” and “public incitement to extremist activities involving the use of mass media.”

The Russian Prosecutor General’s Office has sent a request to Interpol to place Yarosh on the international wanted list and arrest him, Russian Prosecutor General Yury Chaika said on April 11, 2014. “We have sent a request to the Interpol National Central Bureau, the Russian Interior Ministry, on declaring Yarosh internationally wanted and arresting him,” Chaika said.
