You're reading: Ukraine opens 308 criminal cases against Communist Party

A total of 308 criminal inquires have been launched against members of the Communist Party of Ukraine (CPU), said Hanna Onyschenko, the head of the Ukrainian State Registration Service.

“A total of 308 criminal cases have been opened against the crimes
that were committed by certain CPU members,” she told reporters after a
District Administrative Court hearing in Kyiv on July 24.

There is evidence that the party leaders openly backed the annexation
of Crimea by the Russian Federation, the creation of the
self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk “people’s republic” and financed the
illegal armed groups operating in the Donbas region, Onyschenko said.

It was reported that the District Administrative Court held a
preparatory session on Thursday with respect to the Justice Ministry’s
lawsuit seeking a ban on the registration of the Communist Party. During
the session, the litigants were stating their petitions. The trial is
expected to begin at the District Administrative Court on August 14.
