Ukraine intends to start modernizing its early warning center in Sevastopol before the end of 2009.

“There are prospects for using it. There is a modernization program. There is funding. We intend to start the planned modernization of the Sevastopol facility. The decision on [the radar in] Mukacheve has yet to be made,” a high-ranking military source told Interfax on Wednesday.

The source also confirmed that earlier voiced plans to integrate Ukraine’s radars in the global missile defense system in the future are still topical. “The plans are valid. Consultations are being prepared and contacts are being worked on,” he said.
