You're reading: Ukraine, Poland sign deal on cooperation in security affairs

Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council and the Polish National Security Bureau signed a cooperation protocol on March 5.

A statement from Ukraine’s top security body quoted its chief, Oleksandr Turchynov, as saying Ukraine is in a confrontation with a very powerful enemy that “in effect threatens the whole of Europe. For this reason, cooperation in security and defense affairs between Ukraine and Poland is a priority for both countries,” Turchynov said.
“Cooperation and friendship between our countries is time-tested, but in the present-day situation it acquires a new practical meaning,” he said.
Turchynov said neither Ukraine’s loss of Crimea nor the conflict in the east of the country would “stop it on its path of integration with Europe and NATO.”
Polish National Bureau head Stanislaw Koziej said Poland would support Ukraine in its efforts to “integrate with Europe and join NATO.”
