Ukraine reiterates that it is ready to send the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate to take part in the Operation Atalanta, EU's anti-piracy mission off the Somali coast, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry reported.

“Ukraine is ready to send the Hetman Sahaidachny frigate along with a helicopter and examination unit aboard to take part in the EU anti-piracy operation Atalanta after it completes tasks as part of the Operation Ocean Shield in late 2013,” Ukrainian chief of staff Volodymyr Zamana said at a meeting with EU Military Committee Chairman Patrick de Rousiers in Brussels on Wednesday.

Work to train the frigate’s crew for the operation is underway, and a relevant agreement is being worked out together with the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, he said.

The parties also discussed Ukrainian-EU military cooperation, the ministry reported.
