KYIV, Nov 21 – Ukraine has revised its forecast for gross domestic product (GDP) next year to Hr 196 billion ($31.61 billion*) from Hr 185 billion planned initially, Finance Minister Ihor Mitiukov said on Tuesday.

Mityukov told reporters this year’s higher-than-expected GDP was behind a better forecast for next year. He said the government expected GDP to grow by four percent in 2001.

The government had initially targeted GDP at Hr 150.8 billion this year compared to Hr 126.1 billion in 1999. It had originally planned GDP to grow by 1.5 percent in 2000, but then updated its growth forecast to 3.5 percent.

The State Statistics Committee has said GDP grew by 5.1 percent in the first ten months of the year compared to the same period a year ago and totaled Hr 137.4 billion.

NOTE: *The government calculated the 2001 state budget with the hryvnia exchange rate of 6.2 to the dollar.
