The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has noted the joint desire of Ukraine and Russia to develop the interstate border, the director of the ministry's information policy department, Oleh Voloshyn, has said.

"We’ve just started field work, and we can already say that it is a technical component. I don’t want to say that it will happen very quickly, but it’s obvious that we and the Russian side have reached an understanding that the border should be properly developed," he said at a briefing in Kyiv on April 10.

Voloshyn said that the sides had not set any concrete dates, but the process of border demarcation was continuing.

The diplomat said this work was important in the context of the implementation of an action plan to introduce a visa-free regime between Ukraine and the EU.

Voloshyn also said that apart from border demarcation, significant efforts were being taken to improve border-crossing points ahead of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship.
