You're reading: Ukraine says its positions pounded with shells, rockets by militants

Militants opened fire on Ukrainian positions on 24 occasions during the 18 hours from midnight to 6 p.m. on April 25, said the press center for the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine.

“Between 3.20 a.m. and 3.30 a.m. hours there was a clash near the populated area of Pisky with an enemy and scout group. The Ukrainian troops forced the enemy to retreat. The same type of weapon was used … against Ukrainian forces near the villages of Hranitne and Popasna, and twice not far from Avdiyivka,” the center said in a statement.

“In Donetsk region, criminals fired 40 and 20 rockets between 1.10 a.m. and 1.15 a.m. hours and between 2.10 a.m. and 2.20 a.m. hours respectively on the positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near the village of Hranitne. Besides, for the second time over the past week, bandit groups attacked civilians with Grad rockets. Between 2.30 a.m. and 2.35 a.m. hours militants fired 20 rockets from a BM-21 Grad system on the populated area of Starohnativka in Volnovakha district,” it said.

There were no attacks in Luhansk region, the center said.
