Russia under the pretext of humanitarian aid has sent to the Ukrainian border guards with military equipment, the movement of the column was stopped due to diplomatic work, deputy head of the presidential administration of Ukraine Valeriy Chaly has stated.
“A few hours ago, a very serious provocation was prepared by the
Russian Federation, which could have led tonight to unpredictable events
and the escalation of threat. A huge convoy accompanied by Russian
military machinery was moving towards the Ukrainian border under the
guise of humanitarian aid with peacekeepers as it was allegedly agreed
with the Committee of the Red Cross, apparently in order to provoke a
full-scale conflict,” he said in the Shuster Live program on Friday
night.
Chaly noted President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko had collected an
operation staff, held telephone talks with the world leaders, due to
which the movement of the convoy was stopped.
“We got assurance from the Russian Foreign Ministry that the convoy stopped moving,” he said.
In addition, he stated that the Committee of the Red Cross denies any
statements by Russia that the operation was coordinated with it.
