Ukraine as of July 25, 2012, threshed 18.3 million tonnes of early grain from 7.9 million hectares, which was 80% of the target figure, the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry said. 

The average yield of grain and leguminous crops is 23.2 centners (one centner equals 100 kilograms) per hectare. The highest yield is in Khmelnytsky and Kyiv regions (40.7 centners per hectare and 40 centners per hectare respectively), Ivano-Frankivsk region (37.8 centners per hectare), Cherkasy region (37.3 centners per hectare), and Ternopil region (35.6 centners per hectare).

The ministry points out to a decrease in the average yield in the southern regions of Ukraine due to bad weather conditions. In particular, it is 12.9 centners per hectare in Dnipropetrovsk region, 15.3 centners in Kherson region, and 15.4 centners per hectare in Mykolaiv region.

As of July 25, 2012, farmers gathered 12.1 million tonnes of wheat from 4.7 million hectares (82% of the target). Its average yield is 25.9 centners per hectare against 32.3 centners per hectare in 2011.

Barley was gathered from 2.8 million hectares (84% of the target); farmers threshed 5.5 million tonnes with the average yield being 19.5 centners per hectare (24.7 centners per hectare in 2011).

Farmers also gathered 336,000 tonnes of rye from 147,000 hectares (49% of the target) with the average yield being 22.9 centners per hectare (21.1 centners per hectare in 2011).

According to the ministry, Odesa region has already threshed 1.5 million tonnes, Kharkiv and Vinnytsia regions 1.4 million tonnes each, Cherkasy, Zaporizhia and Donetsk region over 1 million tonnes each.

The ministry reported that the forecast of the yield of early grain after shelling is about 21.5 million tonnes, including 13.9 million tonnes of wheat, according to information coming from the regions.
