You're reading: Ukraine to be provided with assistance for construction of shelter at Chornobyl

The UN points to necessity to provide Ukraine with financial assistance for the construction of new anti-radiation shelter at the Chornobyl nuclear power plant, the press service of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme Helen Clark said that the UN will assist Ukraine in that sector.

In his turn, Vice Prime Minister for Economy Serhii Tihipko pointed out the importance of support of that sort.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, in September, then First Vice Prime Minister Andrii Kliuev, estimated the constriction of new Shelter facility at the Chornobyl plant at 870 million euro.

Ukraine hopes that the international society will assist it in completion of the Shelter facility.

The Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant state-run specialized enterprise, Kyiv region, expects to complete the construction of the Shelter facility above the fourth power unit of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant by 2014.
