Ukraine will soon begin importing coal due to shortages at thermal power plants because of military operations in Donbas, the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Ministry's press service said, citing Deputy Energy Minister Vadym Ulyda.

“I expect that we will begin importing coal soon,” the press service cited him as saying.

According to the deputy minister, the fuel may come from New Zealand, Australia, and possibly, from the United States. The Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has been working on the issue of establishing supplies for about two months.

According to the ministry, thermal power plants are now experiencing shortages of grade A coal. The current coal reserves at the power plants will be enough to operate for a period from 11 to 50 days.
