You're reading: Ukraine to conduct reforms to achieve NATO standards – Foreign Ministry

Ukraine plans to conduct a number of key reforms in the defense and security sector within the next few years to ultimately comply with NATO standards, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Yevhen Perebyinis said.

“Ukraine insists that our priority today is to conduct reforms that will enable us in several years to approach the security and defense standards that exist in the NATO countries,” Perebyinis said at a news conference on Dec. 24.

Ukraine and NATO have engaged major cooperation mechanisms that were declared at the alliance’s summit in Wales in September, he said.

“You know that trust funds are working, which enable us to approach the NATO standards in various sectors, and we are developing bilateral cooperation with individual member-states of the alliance,” he said.

Ukraine will demonstrate significant progress in the near future in achieving NATO’s security and defense standards, he said.
