You're reading: Ukraine, Turkey increasing military-technical cooperation

Ukraine and Turkey are increasing cooperation in the defense industry complex, and both countries are preparing for the realization of joint projects in aerospace, tank, and aircraft engine production.

According to a statement issued by Ukroboronprom state concern’s press service on April 16, the corresponding agreements were reached as a result of the working visit to Turkey by a Ukrainian delegation headed by First Deputy Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleh Hladkovsky.

In particular, Ukraine and Turkey outlined plans to realize agreements on cooperation in creating a Turkish national rocket facility. Turkey suggested that the project could be realized by a single framework contract stating that the participants of the cooperation are Ukroboronprom and the State Space Agency of Ukraine.

“In the future, all the technical and organizational aspects will be regulated by additional agreements,” Ukroboronprom said.

Both countries agreed to the joint development and production of turbo-jet and other aviation engines. The possibility of creating a joint venture between Zaporizhia-based “Ivchenko-Progress” state concern and Turkish Engine Industries was also discussed.

Turkey also confirmed its interest in the development of the partnership with Ukraine in the production of tanks.

In addition, representatives of the Ukrainian defense industry complex were invited to participate in the development and production of radiolocation, navigation and communication devices.

The results of the negotiations have been formalized by the signing of a memorandum of understanding, Ukroboronprom said.
