Ukrainian officials say a deputy environment minister has been sacked for accepting a bribe of $200,000, the first major official in the country's new government to fall as a result of corruption.
Prosecutors say they caught Bogdan Presner taking a bribe in exchange for helping appoint a regional official.
Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said Wednesday the government would grant no leniency to corrupt officials.
Azarov was appointed head of government in March after the election of President Viktor Yanukovych, who pledged to fight the country’s endemic graft.
