You're reading: Ukraine’s chief of defense briefs US delegation about army reform, ATO progress

Chief of Ukraine's Army General Staff Col. Gen. Viktor Muzhenko has met with the U.S. Armed Forces delegation led by Supreme Allied Commander Europe of NATO Allied Command Operations Gen. Philip Breedlove in Kyiv on Wednesday, Nov. 26.

During the meeting, Muzhenko briefed the U.S. Armed Forces delegation on the current situation in Ukraine and progress in the anti-terrorist operation in its eastern regions, the press service of the Ukraine’s Defense Ministry reported.

In particular, Muzhenko informed Breedlove, the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt and members of the foreign delegation “about the experience the Ukrainian armed forces gained during the ATO (anti-terrorist operation).”

The U.S. Armed Forces representatives obtained information about the experience in conducting a military operation, Ukraine’s plans to introduce structural changes to the national armed forces, in particular, by reforming the command system, as well as views on certain aspects and prospects for further military cooperation.

“It should be noted that the aim of the meeting is to maintain the military-political dialogue at the highest level, the discussion of the current status of the bilateral military cooperation between the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the U.S. Armed Forces, further prospects and areas of cooperation, as well demonstration of U.S. support for Ukraine,” the statement said.
