You're reading: Ukraine’s constitution could be changed via referendum

Justice Minister of Ukraine Oleksandr Lavrynovych has said that amendments to the Constitution could be made via referendum.

“I think that for Ukraine it’s rather normal to amend those sections of the current Constitution which require this. There are no restrictions for a referendum here. All sections can be amended,” he said on the Shuster Live talk show late on Friday.

Lavrynovych said that the law on Ukrainian referendum signed by the Ukrainian president was really passed by parliament with violation of the parliament regulations.

“The regulations are not observed from the first day of its adoption by all parliament convocations and at all session. This situation is seen in Ukraine… However, this cannot influence the contents of the law being passed in a constitutional way,” he said.

The minister said that the law does not contain any requirement, which could bring a potential threat to the state.

The minister reminded that the law on referendum was supported at first reading by parliament in 2010.
