Natural gas supplies to Ukraine from the European Union are a normal process, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky has said.

“We are dealing with leading companies in purchase and sale of natural gas. Therefore, we do not care where these companies purchased the gas. We have natural gas physically delivered from the territory of the European Union,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday when asked by journalists to comment on the statements by Russia’s Gazprom chief about the illegality of any virtual reverse supplies of gas to Ukraine.

Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller said earlier that Ukraine should stick to its contractual obligations with regards to the volume of the purchased Russian gas and give up reverse gas shipments from Europe. He said that Ukraine had no right to dispose of Russian gas on its territory as if it were their own. “Any virtual reverse is illegal,” the Gazprom CEO said.
