During a meeting with EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin called on the European Union to increase the sanctions against Russia.

“The expansion of the sanctions package will indicate a solidary reaction of the EU to the Russian aggression against Ukraine […] I hope the increase of the pressure on Russia will promote the urgent and complete fulfillment of the peace agreements by it,” the minister was quoted by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry press service as saying at a meeting with Mogherini in Brussels on Monday, Nov. 17.

Klimkin also pointed out the importance of providing Ukraine with military-technical assistance by the EU countries.

Mogherini, for her part, welcomed the measures taken by Ukraine to stabilize the situation in the country, expressing deep concerns about the constant ceasefire violations in Donbas.

“Federica Mogherini has called on Ukraine to envision the need to intensify the reforms in the country when making the program documents of the new coalition and the Ukrainian government. She also confirmed the readiness of the EU to support this,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in its report.
