Foreign Ministry of Ukraine has informed foreign embassies that the decision of the Supreme Council of Crimea to schedule for March 16 a referendum on the further destiny of peninsula is illegitimate.

“The Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry presented a notification on position of the Ukraine’s side, which calls this decision illegal, to foreign embassies and offices of the international organizations on March 6,” director of the information policy department of Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Yevhen Perebyinis reported at the briefing.

According to him, this decision of the Supreme Council of Crimea has been already held up since it contradicts the Constitution of Ukraine and Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

“Ukraine is a sovereign, independent and integral state. The Autonomous Republic of Crimea is an integral part of the territory of Ukraine,” the diplomat said.
