You're reading: Ukrainian army accuses militants of firing Grad rocket launchers on its positions

The Ukrainian delegation to the Joint Control and Coordination Center (JCCC) promoting ceasefire and stabilization along the Donbas contact line has been observing numerous violations of the Minsk agreements by the militants, which, in its words, has been using Grad rocket launchers.

JCCC monitors observed five cases of the sort in May, and some of the attacks were conducted against populated areas where the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not have their positions, the army operation press center has written on Facebook.

According to it, militants units stationed in Donetsk fired 120mm rockets on Avdiyivka on May 2. Ten rockets were fired from Frunze on Krymske on May 3, 40 from Michurine on Starohnativka on May 27, and Berezove was attacked from Molodizhne on May 28.

“These are flagrant violations of the Package of Measures towards the fulfillment of the Minsk agreements [approved on February 12]. Since the pullback of heavy armaments by the Ukrainian Armed Forces ended on March 7, 2015, which was confirmed by members of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine (OSCE SMM), the Ukrainian side has never used rocket launchers,” JCCC Ukrainian co-chair Maj. Gen. Andriy Taran said.

He said the army presented documentary evidence of rocket launchers’ use by the militia to OSCE SMM members.

The Minks agreements compelled the pullback of weapons with calibers larger than 100mm from the contact line to a distance of at least 15 kilometers on each side (with a number of exceptions) for creating a security zone at least 30 kilometers wide.
