The Ukrainian army has captured 23 militants of the self-proclaimed Luhansk People's Republic who were trying to escape from besieged Lysychansk, Luhansk region, the Ukrainian presidential press center said.

“An armor convoy of the illegal armed unit was defeated on the orders
from the armed forces supreme commander. Three vehicles were destroyed
and 23 militants, among them their injured leader, were taken prisoner,”
it said.

“Some prisoners are ethnic Chechens. All members of the illegal armed units are Russian citizens,” it said.

The Ukrainian army is trying to seize the town of Rubizhne, the press service added.
