The total number of Ukrainian troops killed during the anti-terrorist operation from the middle of May could reach about 2,000 people, deputy head of Dnipropetrovsk regional state administration Sviatoslav Oliynyk said on the Shuster Live program aired by the First National TV Channel on Friday, Sept. 19.

“We conducted an investigation, during which we counted 1,336 forensic examinations of killed soldiers carried in Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhia, Kharkiv and Donetsk regions,” he said.

Oliynyk added that he was referring to the personal staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, volunteer battalions, and special battalions of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine.

Moreover, rescue teams now are searching for the bodies of those killed in Starobesheve, Amvrosiyivka, Ilovaisk and Savur-Mohyla. He said that a number of collected bodies could increase by 500-600.

He stressed that militants and Russian soldiers’ losses “aren’t less, but probably greater.”

He found it difficult to say how many civilians were killed during the ATO.
