The Ukrainian Armed Forces have received tangible material assistance from their foreign partners since the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian Defense Ministry spokesperson Viktoria Kushnir has said.

“For instance, the Canadian government provided over 60,000 pairs of combat boots, over 30,000 field jackets, more than 1,000 flak jackets and over 3,000 helmets. The United States sent 3,800 camouflage jackets, 3,500 winter trousers and 2,000 flak jackets. Some 1,500 winter jackets were received from the government of the Netherlands. The government of Australia provided 10,000 pairs of boots, and more than 7,000 balaclava hats,” Kushnir said at a press briefing in Kyiv on Oct. 23.

The ministry spokesman added that the United Kingdom and Poland had provided the Ukrainian Armed Forces with military backpacks, balaclava hats, winter trousers, hats, winter jackets and gloves.

In the words of Kushnir, the ministry is carrying on a reform of clothing procurement, and some of new NATO-standard military wear has been supplied to the troops.

“Before the end of this year, 183,500 patrol caps, 253,600 summer field uniforms and 280,000 pairs of combat boots of the new standard will be delivered,” Kushnir said.

It is also planned to supply helmet liners, summer and winter socks, load-carrying vests, backpacks and knee protectors by the yearend.
