The Holosiyivsky District Court in Kyiv will resume the hearing of a criminal case related to Russian citizens Alexander Alexandrov and Yevgeny Yerofeyev, who were detained in Ukraine on Nov. 17.

At a Tuesday hearing, the court granted a motion by Alexandrov’s lawyer Yury Hrabovsky, who said that he would be unable to attend the next hearing as he is supposed to be present at a session of the Higher Qualification Disciplinary Commission, of which he is a deputy chairman, an Interfax correspondent reported from the courthouse.

The court is expected to start analyzing evidence presented by the prosecution at the Nov. 17 hearing.

Alexei Gruby, the head of the consulate department of the Russian embassy to Ukraine, who attended the Tuesday hearing, said the defendants had basically not complained about their conditions. Gruby noted, however, that there were no reasons to hurry to transfer them from the hospital, where they were staying because of their injuries, to a detention facility.

Gruby also suggested that Yerofeyev and Alexandrov could have claimed originally that they were servicemen of the Russian armed forces under the effects of drugs.

He insisted that there is documentary evidence proving that they were not regular servicemen at the moment of their detention in Ukraine.
