You're reading: Ukrainian defense minister orders lie detector checks on senior officials

Ukrainian Defense Minister Valeriy Heletei is set to run lie detector tests for about 30 senior officials of the ministry.

‘Having been the Ukrainian defense minister for two months, I have many questions to the people who are not involved in the hostilities in the ATO zone, who are dealing with procurement and other issues and are deployed directly at the Defense Ministry, they are holding senior positions and are both military men and civilians. Therefore, I have decided to conduct this experiment and to see how many people fit their positions,’ he said in a program broadcast on the Inter channel on Sunday night.

According to the minister, individual questions will be prepared for each official to take lie detector tests.

The minister did not specify the questions but said the officials would be checked for ‘leaking information’ and cooperating with security services of other states.

Heletei said approximately 30 officials, including himself, would take the test to begin with.

‘These are the people directly influencing the Defense Ministry’s policy, those with access to the ATO zone are open to question and, certainly, those who are dealing with army supplies and support to the ATO zone,’ he said.
