Most part of the town of Ilovaisk in the Donetsk oblast is under the control of Ukrainian troops, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council spokesman Andriy Lysenko said at a briefing in Kyiv on Aug. 21.
“Strong reinforcement, which was discussed today in the morning, has arrived in Ilovaisk. This allowed our troops to take hold of positions and to repel two more attacks… The greater part of the town is currently under the control of Ukrainian servicemen,” Lysenko said.
At the same time, armed groups resisting the Ukrainian military are trying to recover the territory lost, he said.
The most acute situation is in Luhansk, Donetsk, Dmytrivka, Mykolaivka, Yasynuvata, Krasnodon, Makiyivka, Horlivka, and Savur-Mohyla Kurgan, Lysenko said. “Active combat actions are taking place here,” he said.
According to Lysenko, Ukrainian military continue operation work in the village of Stanytsia Luhanksa, Malomykolayivka and Illiria in the Luhansk region and Zemlyanka and Yasynivka in the Donetsk region and still maintain Novosvitlovka and Hriaschuvate.
“To make a corridor to supply armament, heavy vehicles, as well as the militants from Russian territory, terrorists continue shelling anti-terrorist operation’s forces. However, due to constant pressure of the Ukrainian forces, the terrorists start to fall back. Some of them even try to leave occupied territories pretending refugees,” he added.
