The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is assisting holding a meeting of the contact group on settling the situation in eastern Ukraine but is not aware when the group might meet, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin said.

“Every day I try to ensure that the consultations take place by the end of the day,” Klimkin said at a briefing in Kyiv on Thursday, July 10.

At the same time, Klimkin failed to give the exact date for the meeting, having said that the trilateral contact group negotiating should be asked about this.

The Foreign Ministry is working constantly on ensuring this dialogue, Klimkin said. “I have great hopes that contact will occur soon,” he said.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is taking different steps, in particular proposed to hold the contact group meeting in Sviatohirsk or even a Skype conference, the minister said. “What other ideas could be considered to initiate a conversation between the trilateral group?” he said.

The first meeting of the contact group in the format of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Ukraine and Russia on settling the situation in southeastern Ukraine took place in Kyiv on June 8.

The second round of consultations occurred on June 27.
