You're reading: Ukrainian Interior Ministry leaning towards suicide theory in Sashko Bily death

The fatal injury in the heart of the fugitive member of an organized criminal group, Right Sector coordinator Oleksandr Muzychko, also known as Sashko Bily, resulted from the use of his own weapon, Ukrainian First Deputy Interior Minister Volodymyr Yevdokymov said.

“Three (police officers) seized the pistol, put his hands behind and handcuffed him, and only then did they see the blood. He was still alive and paramedics were called in,” he told a press conference in Kyiv on March 25.

Asked whether this means he killed himself, the first deputy minister said: “He shot from his own weapon from which he had been firing at the police officers. One bullet went through, the second hit the heart.”

Yevdokymov said earlier on March 25 that Muzychko was fatally injured during his arrest in the early hours of March 25 because he opened fire on the policemen.

Right Sector demanded an immediate resignation of Interior Minister Arsen Avakov and the arrest of all officers from the Sokil (Falcon) special police force who played part in Muzychko’s death.

Avakov said he was threatened by Right Sector but “accepts the challenge” and his position towards those violating public order will be fairly tough.
