SIMFEROPOL - Crimea will resort to planned power outages every morning and evening until Ukraine provides power generation sufficient for restoring former levels of power supply to Crimea, Crimean Fuel and Energy Minister Sergei Yegorov told Interfax on Dec. 25.

“Ukraine has presented a delivery schedule, according to which power supply will not exceed 400 megawatts during morning and evening peak hours. We will have to resort to rolling blackouts and cut the consumption by 200 megawatts,” Yegorov said.

He added they were not expecting sudden cutoffs of power supply from Ukraine at the moment.

“The Ukrainian side has not issued official notices of this kind,” the minister said.

The full discontinuation of Ukrainian power supply to Crimea on Dec. 24 caused thermal power plant breakdowns in Simferopol and Saki, he said.

Ukraine abruptly discontinued power supply to Crimea without a warning on Wednesday. The supply was partially restored later on. Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said the national energy authorities tightened control over electricity consumption limits on December 24, which temporarily cut off power supply to the Crimean Peninsula.
