Ukraine's representatives at the Joint Center for Ceasefire Control and Coordination (JCCC) claim that the Ukrainian army's positions have come under fire in the country's eastern regions.

A statement circulated by the Ukrainian army’s press center says that in the early hours of August 1 massive strikes were conducted “along almost the entire line of contact in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.”

“Positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ units, as well as nearby civilian localities situated along the frontline – Avdiyivka, Opytne, Pisky, Maryinka, Krasnohorivka, Mayorsk, Luhanske, Zaitseve and others – came under intense fire,” according to the statement.

The most complicated situation can be observed near Horlivka, Donetsk and Avdiyivka, it says.

In particular, two civilians have been injured as a result of shelling in the towns of Dzerzhynsk and Toshkivka over the past 24 hours, it says.

The Ukrainian side has accused militants of the self-proclaimed republics in the country’s eastern regions of conducting artillery strikes against Horlivka.

It said that the leadership of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Special Monitoring Mission in Kyiv, as well as the OSCE mission’s office in Donetsk have already been informed of the situation, and “international levers of influence have been used.”

“The leadership of the Ukrainian side at the JCCC assesses such a situation as another attempt to escalate the conflict,” the statement says
