You're reading: Ukrainian military ‘disperse’ gunmen who attacked Luhansk border squadron

The Ukrainian aviation used in the security operation has "dispersed" the forces which attacked the control post of the Luhansk border squadron, the security operation spokesman Vladyslav Selezniov said.

“About 200 armed people were firing automatic rifles and underbarrel grenade launchers at the control post of the Luhansk border squadron through the night. At the same time, snipers were firing at border guards from the positions equipped in the windows of a tower block,” Selezniov wrote on his Facebook page on June 1 morning.

Some border guards sustained injuries and are being attended to, he said.

“Border guards conducted fire,” and to help them, “aviation was sent in and has fulfilled its combat task and dispersed the terrorists,” Selezniov said.

“The shooting resumed (in this area) this morning,” he added later.

For his part, head of the Ukrainian Center for Military-Political Studies and Information Resistance Group coordinator Dmytro Tymchuk said that seven border guards had been injured during the storming of the Luhansk border squadron, and there was no data about losses among the opposing forces.

The Ukrainian State Border Guard Service said earlier that border guards had repelled several attacks on the control post of the Luhansk border squadron in the early hours of Monday morning; some of the border guards were injured. A fighter aircraft was sent to the border guards’ rescue, but initially failed to conduct precision firing in the town.

The forces opposed to the Ukrainian army continued firing while pulling their forces and weapons closer to the control post of the border squadron.
