You're reading: Ukrainian military seize control over Debaltseve in Donetsk region

The town of Debaltseve (Donetsk Oblast) is controlled by the Ukrainian military, the press center for the anti-terrorist operation (ATO) held in east Ukraine said on July 29.

Debaltseve is of “great strategic importance,” being “a potent railway center of Ukraine,” and a town that helped finally unblock the encircled Ukrainian army units, the press center wrote on Facebook.

A large quantity of equipment, ammunition and weapons has been found in the town, the statement said.

Additional roadblocks were installed on the roads, which helped strengthen the positions and “narrow down the circle around Horlivka and Donetsk,” the statement said.
