You're reading: Ukrainian officers detained in Russian territory return to Ukraine

Moscow/Kyiv - Five Ukrainian army officers who crossed over to Russian territory and were later detained returned to Ukraine last night, Interfax was told in law enforcement bodies of Rostov region on Sunday, Aug. 10.

“A battalion commander of the 72nd brigade and four of his
subordinates were handed over at Chertkovo checkpoint (Rostov region) on
Saturday night,” a spokesman.

Later the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) confirmed the return.

“We have good news. Last night at about 1.40 a.m. the Russian side turned
over to Ukrainian border guards five servicemen of the 72nd brigade,”
spokesman for the NSDC information and analysis center Andriy Lysenko
said at a Sunday briefing.
