You're reading: Ukrainian People’s Party demands dismissal of judges that stripped Hero of Ukraine titles from Shukhevych, Bandera

The Ukrainian People's Party has described the rulings of the Higher Administrative Court of Ukraine that deprived the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian Insurgent Army, Roman Shukhevych, and the leader of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN-UPA), Stepan Bandera, of their Hero of Ukraine titles as politically motivated, aimed at removing heroes from the history of Ukraine and destroying Ukrainians' patriotic spirit.

Referring to the Article 16 of the law on state titles of Ukraine, the party noted that only the president of Ukraine is entitled to strip state titles, in the case of the holder being convicted of a serious crime.

In connection with this, the Ukrainian People’s Party demands Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych and the High Council of Justice "dismiss all judges that consciously issued an illegal ruling depriving Roman Shukhevych and Stepan Bandera of the Hero of Ukraine title, thus breaking their judge’s oath and staining their profession."
