In the course of the working visit to Chernivtsi region, President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko conducted a synchronous launch of two hydroelectric power units of Dnistrovska hydroelectric pumped storage power plant in Novodnistrovsk (Chernivtsi region).

“Ukraine missed the holidays of launching such powerful facilities,” he said at a meeting with the workers of the plant, the presidential press service reported on Oct. 24.

The president said that putting such facilities into operation would allow solving the issue of energy independence of the state promptly. He noted that the country would be less dependent on Russian gas.

“Putting such facilities as Dnistrovska hydroelectric pumped storage power plant and Kaniv complex into operation would let Ukraine stop depending on foreign supply of coal and gas,” he said.

Poroshenko said that 85 percent of equipment of the plant was produced by the Ukrainian enterprises, as “Ukraine has the whole complex of power engineering”.

He also mentioned a high level of work organization and environmental friendliness of the electricity produced by the enterprise.

“You are making a miracle,” the president said to the workers. He added that only few producers in the world could build such objects.

“It would be great to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence with a launch of the third hydroelectric power unit. It will mean that we will have guaranteed jobs, social facilities, housing and nobody will be able to stop us – we will live in a European way,” the president said.
