Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko has said that Ukraine needs to conduct many reforms to gain membership of the European Union.

“Our goal is membership of the EU, European standards and values… This involves a significant number of reforms and [solving] problems. It’s hardly possible to conduct 62 reforms simultaneously, but we have no choice. Termination of the process of reforms will be catastrophic for Ukraine. The government, the future parliament and I, as president, fully understand that,” Poroshenko said at a meeting with foreign investors and representatives of investment companies in Kyiv on Oct. 2, the president’s press service reported.

The president said that the judicial and anticorruption reforms were crucial for the country. He expressed the hope that on Oct. 7, the parliament will pass the package of anticorruption bills.

“The rule of law should be the key result of the reforms. Investors need it, citizens need it, the country needs it,” the head of state stressed.

Poroshenko also said that the creation of favorable business climate and the tax reform were vitally important for the development of business in Ukraine. “Antitrust laws and protection of competition are another prerequisite for the rapid economic growth,” the president said.
