You're reading: Ukrainian presidential administration claims situation getting calm in Donbas

The situation in Donbas shows a tendency towards normalization, Ukrainian Presidential Administration Spokesman for the Army Operation Andriy Lysenko has said.

“The stabilization trend has been ongoing. It is quiet in many hotbeds – Stanytsia Luhanska, Schastia, Zolote, Popasna and Maryinka – for the first time. Not a single shooting incident has been observed in the entire Mariupol sector. The enemy has not been using mortars, heavy armaments and armor for a second day,” Lysenko said at a press briefing in Kyiv on Aug. 31.

Tensions persisted in the Luhansk sector only north of the Bakhmutka highway, he said. The militants conducted a 15-minute grenade launcher attack near Triokhizbenka. Fire was coming from the opposite bank of the Siversky Donets. A short-term armed provocation was staged between Slovyanoserbsk and Krymske.

Some tensions were observed near the Svitlodarsk bulge in the Donetsk sector, he said. “Seven provocations by use of small arms and grenade launchers were perpetrated near our frontlines in Lozove and Luhanske. Only one armed incident occurred near Horlivka – the enemy opened small arms fire in the town of Kirove of the Dzerzhynsk City Council,” Lysenko said.

Hostilities near Donetsk were focused on Pisky. Gunfire was opened at night.

There was not a single shooting incident in the Mariupol sector on Sunday. Yet two servicemen were hurt in explosions of pull-action mines during their missions, Lysenko said.
