Ukraine's ex-president Leonid Kuchma is the only person representing the Ukrainian authorities in the negotiation group on the implementation of Petro Poroshenko's peace plan for the southeastern regions of the country, the Ukrainian presidential administration has reported.

“I believe an interesting solution was found when Ukraine’s second
president Leonid Kuchma joined this work, and he is the only person
representing the president. All other representatives are not Ukrainian
representatives, Valeriy Chaly, deputy head of the Ukrainian
presidential administration, said on ICTV television.

Chaly said he believes involving Kuchma as the president’s representative in the negotiations has “huge potential.”

He specified that “the OSCE, [Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail] Zurabov, and Ukraine” are involved in the consultations.

Chaly believes dialogue needs to be established with legitimate
representatives of Donbas to settle the situation. “We need to establish
dialogue with those who represent Donbas,” he said.

Chaly believes that in this situation it is necessary to look for
possibilities to implement the peace plan involving negotiators who are
trusted in the region.
